Big Iron - is a mixed media work of art portraying the Ranger in the song of the same name written by Marty Robins. This particular piece was inspired by Bob Weir's rendition although in this case the painting depicts a female as the Arizona Ranger looking for justice in the town of Agua Fria - located in New Mexico. I wanted to create images that reminded me of the novelty gifts made in China that you could win when fair days rolled into town. The cheap, almost florescent Jesus and dogs smoking cigars "art" pieces. Like Agua Fria, the fair was never a nice place (Fria - fair, hum) especially when you're on your own and the older teenagers turn up after the sun goes down... I wanted to capture that dark element and I think I may have even captured the devil on the horizon, but maybe it's just Texas Red.
